Project Horizon is the backbone of everything else we do: a network of low-cost gravitational strain detectors, built from modified laser interferometry kits, deployed across three sites and cross-referenced against public LIGO and Virgo data feeds.
Why build our own detectors?
Public observatories are tuned to detect strain from events millions of light-years away — black hole mergers, neutron star collisions. They are not designed to flag brief, localized, low-amplitude strain events near the surface. Horizon is.
Each site runs a rolling baseline of ambient noise — seismic activity, traffic, weather — so that anything outside three standard deviations gets flagged for manual review.
Where things stand
Since deployment, Horizon has logged 1,842 flagged events. The overwhelming majority resolve to mundane causes within a day. Seventeen candidate windows remain unresolved and are cross-checked against our sighting-report archive as part of Project Tesseract.
